2017 Backpacks for Christ

This year the Camelback Church is doing the Backpacks for Christ Ministry on Christmas Eve and Christmas day as they have done for the last 9 years.  What originally started as one father, Jim Curley, and his 7-year-old son handing out some blankets and gloves on Christmas morning has grown into a ministry that impacts thousands.  This year, 2017, we will surpass 10,000 backpacks.

Each year funds, hygiene items, stocking hats, Bibles, and Step to Christ are given out to 1200 homeless, Veterans, and people in need at 5 separate locations.  It takes many volunteers to make each part of this loving ministry work.

Jim Curley’s vision was to have each detail of the project humanize the experience for all the folks receiving the backpacks.  From families putting together items for the bags to church members sharing their favorite Bible verse on a bag tag.  The recipient is not only prayed for if desired, but also asked their name to be added to the name tag.  Although Jim passed away in January of 2017 his legacy of love will shine for many years.
