Notes from Cherie O.

August 24, 2018

Tomorrow: Our Stephen Ministry Peer Supervision and Continuing Education will meet at 8:30 in Room 1. Family Praise & Worship gathers from 9:30 - 9:45, in Room 8 of the Sabbath School wing, followed by Sabbath Schools for all age groups, from newborn to us older folks, taking place in several locations around the facility. They are all listed on the inside cover of your bulletin when you arrive Sabbath morning. For the worship service, Sisters of Grace will lead us in Praise, and Senior Pastor John Stanton will bring us the morning message, entitled, “GOD’S ONE STEP PLAN TO VICTORY." The service will be followed by guest luncheon in the Rotunda, and as always EVERYONE is welcome, you just need to BRING FOOD. It's always helpful to our great volunteers, if a few who are attending could stay afterward and assist with clean-up.

Identifying and Resolving Personal & Marital Problems (The Divorce Care, Grief Share, Caring for the Emotionally Damaged Heart and Communication Seminar) has resumed for another season, facilitated by Duane Andersen. The group meets on Tuesday nights, at 7:00pm in Classroom 5 of the Sabbath School wing. Please text or call Duane if you are interested in more information. His # is 480.276.1689.

We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.

The Men’s Small Group Study is meeting again. They get together on Wednesday at 7:00pm in Room 7, up toward the north end of the Sabbath School wing.

For you young women out there: You are invited! Come join us for a re-launch of the Camelback young women’s Bible study on Wednesday, September 5 at Lux Central Coffee, located at 4402 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012, 7:00pm. This inclusive and vibrant community of young women will be crafting plans for the upcoming year. For more info, text Sarah Ruf at 423-310-2366.

The Camelback church has scheduled a business meeting with a light meal and game night to follow on September 8 at 6:00 PM. All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting. The agenda items include a discussion on the new vision for the church and how the renewed emphasis on discipleship will affect our various ministries here. We will also share the upcoming changes to our weekly worship service and a few new positions being recommended by the nominating committee. We invite you to bring snacks and finger foods to share after the meeting along with your favorite board games to play as we fellowship together. We can look forward to both an informative and enjoyable evening.

Stephen Ministry is an important part of our overall Care & Nurture Ministry at Camelback. We are beginning training for a new group of Stephen Ministers on Sabbath, October 13. Sign Up at the Information Window in the foyer.

I know there’s someone out there whom the Holy Spirit is tugging at your heart strings to respond to this need: The Adventurer Club needs a teacher to work with the Eager Beaver Kindergarten class. We also need a pianist for the Discovery/Jr. Adventurers group. Clubs meet the first and third Sabbaths of the month from 2-4 p.m. Meetings start mid-September and run to mid-May. With the start of a new school year, we will be welcoming new families not only to the schools, but also to Camelback. We look forward to meeting each one of you, getting to know you, and integrating you into your new church family!

Our Food Pantry can still use your contributions. High-in-demand this time of year are the quick and easy, ready-to-eat items. And, of course, we can always use water. Thank you for your continuing support!

I am including this sad note again, as we have something to add to it. I’m sure some of you have already heard, but for those who haven’t, Wednesday afternoon, one of Ken Bursey’s students, a 14 year-old boy, lost his life while on a tubing field trip on the Salt River. For those who don’t know him, Ken is a Camelback member who operates Arizona International Academy, Scottsdale, Arizona. Our hearts go out to Ken, the rest of the staff, and students in the aftermath of this tragic loss.
