March 1, 2018
Happy Thursday, everyone!
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am in amazement that 2 months of 2018 have come and gone. At this rate, Christmas will be next week!
Just a reminder, Pathway to Life, a Christ-centered Bible seminar presented by the staff of 3ABN, at 5 different local churches, Paradise Valley, Desert Cove, Phoenix Central, Phoenix Central Valley Spanish and Chandler, continues through March 10, nightly at 6:30, except for Thursdays. See 3abnphoenix.com for speakers.
Tomorrow night (Friday, March 2), Camelback Church Youth presents WELCOME HOME, High School-Collegiate Youth Worship. Doors open at 7:00pm and begins at 7:30pm. It will include an open mic, fun, friends, food and faith!
Sabbath, March 3, Family Praise & Worship, for all who wish to stop by and see what’s going on, 9:30 - 9:45am in Room 8 - Songs, testimonies, scripture, prayer, and more, for the kids and whole family. And, Sabbath Schools for all other age groups, from newborn to the older folks, taking place in several locations around the facility. They are all listed on the inside cover of your bulletin when you arrive Sabbath morning. This Sabbath we are adding to our Sabbath School adult classes, a Spanish-speaking class. It will meet in the main sanctuary building in the senior pastor’s study at 9:30am. Come early for a good seat; I have a feeling this is going to be a very popular class. And Brian Gertz is back, so his class will resume in the sanctuary. Thunderbird Christian Elementary will bring us the worship service, and after reviewing the run sheet for the program, I can promise everyone that there are blessings galore awaiting each one of us. I’m sure that most of you saw my email yesterday about the lunch this Sabbath. if not, here’s what it said: "As many of you may know, this Sabbath we are hosting Thunderbird Christian Elementary for the worship service. We are always blessed when Jeff and his staff bring the students and they provide the worship service for us; and this Sabbath will be no exception! In appreciation for them being here, we want to provide a nice potluck meal for them. Our visitor’s lunch team is a person short this coming Sabbath, and, in addition, this group size is way over what they are equipped to handle. So, dear Camelback members and friends, we are appealing to each of you to bring a prepared food contribution, or multiple contributions, for this week’s meal. Vonnee tells me we have all the bread we need, and quite a bit of dessert. We mostly need entrees and salads, and vegetables would be helpful. Camelback, you always come through in a crunch, and I have every reason to believe that this Sabbath will be no different. Thank you for being the people, and church family, you are!” Adventurers will meet at 2:00 in Room 3, and Pathfinders at 2:00 in Room 8. It has warmed the hearts of many in this church to have active Adventurer & Pathfinder clubs once again. Thank you to all who have taken on leadership roles in these vital ministries! Please note a change in a Conference activity for this Sabbath. Our calendar showed the AZ Conference Town Hall Meeting at 3:00pm at the Paradise Valley Church. This week we received notice that the meeting has been re-scheduled to Sunday, March 11, same time and place.
And even though I neglected to list it on the March calendar, Pastor Paul Gibson's Tuesday night Bible study is continuing. We meet at 7:00pm, in the Rotunda. Next Tuesday (3-6), we will be studying Chapter 3 of the book of Luke.
The Emotionally Damaged Heart/Language of Healing will meet this coming Tuesday evening at its usual time of 7:00pm in Room 5.
We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.
The Men’s Small Group Study will meet this coming Wednesday, at 7:00pm in Room 3.
Another error on the March calendar :( the Thunderbird Christian Elementary Board Meeting is NOT Thursday, March 8 at 5:30pm, but instead, Wednesday, March 7 at 5:30pm.
If you’d like to get into God’s word on Thursday nights, there's a Bible study taking place at the home of new member, Maria Eden, 3126 E Monte Vista Rd, Phoenix AZ 85008. It starts at 7:00. If there are any questions, please call Maria at 360.701.3919.
Next Sabbath, March 10, we are privileged to host the AZ Conference 2nd Annual P.A.R.L. Weekend Summit and Workshop here at Camelback. This year’s theme is, “For the Least of These.” Sabbath School time, the Worship Service, a Sabbath afternoon panel discussion, and Interactive Workshops on Sunday at the Conference Office, comprise this weekend program. For those who are staying for the Sabbath afternoon panel discussion, the Conference is providing lunch in the Rotunda. At 6:30pm, Calvin Taylor, Gospel music recording artist, will present a piano concert at the Paradise Valley Church.
Sunday, March 11 - An extremely jam-packed day! For you Pathfinders, a Fair at the Monte Vista Church. Another change by the AZ Conference of a scheduled event - The AZ Women’s 2018 Mini-Retreat has been re-located from the AZ Conference Office to the Desert Cove Church in El Mirage. As far as I know, the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at the Glendale Church is still on - that’s at 9:00am. And the Interactive Workshops, Know Your Rights, at the AZ Conference Office are from 9:30am - 2:00pm - A light lunch will be served.
Pathfinders have a camping trip March 16 - 18 to Dead Horse Ranch.
IMPRINT 2018, A Youth/Young Adult Retreat, March 16 - 18, Camp Yavapines, Prescott AZ. Registration includes: Weekend event, T-Shirt, 2 Nights lodging (in cabins), 5 meals, Saturday night sports and games. Guest Speaker: Pastor Shantel Smith, Associate Chaplain, Pacific Union College. For more information and/or to register: AZSDAYOUTH.COM or email: firstname.lastname@example.org or 480.991.6777.
Pastor Mark Sulger will bring us the message on both March 17 & 24.
A message from our Stained Glass Window committee: Due to the generosity and love of many Camelback Church members and friends, a little over one-half of the necessary $35,350 for completion of the stained glass windows, has been received. This project may be speedily finished if we all continue giving as God impresses us.
A message from our Adventurer Club Director, JoAnn Bloom: Adventurers and Discovery Club are in need of one assistant teacher for each group to work with our lead instructors. The Adventurers meet every other week, the Discoverer Club meets once per month. You must be willing to complete the required Verified Volunteer online training. Please contact JoAnn Bloom at (623) 523-2541 or email@example.com
A message from Gwen Dossey, our dear Camelback member who knits the caps for our Backpacks for Christ ministry. Gwen is experiencing some health issues that are seriously interfering with her ability to knit. She is hoping that others of you out there will be able to pick up the slack until such time as she heals and is able to resume. I think we all know how much this ministry means to Gwen, so please, all who are able, please give Gwen a call (602.404.9180) and let her know you can help.
We have made available to all a place to pray, and to be prayed with, in the Parents Room. Open during SS and after the worship service, come and make your requests known to God, write your requests and place them on the Prayer Board and also your Praises, glorifying God. Stop in and see the beautiful new addition to the room.
Signing off. Have a good rest of the evening, my friends!
Love, Cherie O
