A Message from Cherie

Camelback Church family & friends,

It’s been WAY too long since you’ve heard from me in the form of “Notes from Cherie O,” and for that I extend my apologies. I am going to do my very best, going forward, to make them happen weekly. I know it is a valuable communication tool, and so many of you have told me how much you miss receiving them. Well here goes. . . . .

Today is the National Day of Prayer (I just noted that I showed Friday, May 5, as the date on our May calendar-that’s a big OOPS!).

Please remember several in prayer - my dedicated and loyal volunteer assistant, Parveen, learned of the passing of her maternal uncle in Pakistan. He went to sleep in Jesus this past Sabbath, April 29. And Mary Ellen Hogan is in Banner Desert Hospital with two blood clots in her right lung. And Larry Chadwick will have heart bypass surgery a week from tomorrow. These are only a few of the payer needs we are aware of, and I can’t even imagine how many there are that we don’t even know about! Pray for one another, my friends; it is a precious gift that costs us nothing, and can have such an impact!

Tomorrow evening, 7:00 at the Chandler SDA Church, the youth/young adults there begin a weekend of prayer with speaker, Pastor Jonathan Henderson of California.

Family Circle Sabbath School is back in full force this month. The location has moved from the Rotunda to Room 8, still 9:30 - 10:00am. Come and enjoy songs, testimonies, scripture, prayer and more - for the kids and whole family!

This coming Sabbath (5-6) Pastor Mark will speak for the worship service; his message is entitled, “ADVENTISTS’ GREATEST NEED — ENCOUNTERING THE HOLY SPIRIT.” There will be a Thunderbird Adventist Academy feature, a Children’s Story, and we will welcome a new member to the Camelback family through Profession of Faith. A church-wide potluck will follow the worship service. Please plan to attend and bring plenty of your favorite dish(es). We want to provide abundantly for our guests and one another. Among our guests this week will be members of the Burgeson family, here for Don's memorial service at 2:00 in the sanctuary. Please plan to be in attendance to show your support for this precious family. A reception will follow in the Rotunda.

For those who wish to avail themselves, Caring for the Emotionally Damaged Heart, meets on Tuesday nights, 7:00pm, in Room 5. The facilitator, Duane Andersen, has gotten rave reviews for his kindness, compassion and ability to lead out in this kind of a group. If you feel you could benefit from your involvement in this kind of a setting, please come and test out the waters!

We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.

Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm in Room 7, the Men’s Small Group Study meets. Pastor Lou primarily leads out in this group, but next week (5-10), it will be Pastor Mark. Check it out, guys; you may hear something you like!

We are blessed to have Sarah Sykora returning with her Breath of Life worship/exercise class. They will meet twice this month, Thursday, May 11 and Thursday, May 18, both dates at 7:00pm in Room 5.

Sabbath, May 13, Pastor Lou will bring us the morning message. Plan to be in attendance for a special surprise on this Mother’s Day Sabbath!

Sunday, May 14, 3:00pm, the Camelback Concert Series is pleased to bring La Forza Chamber Orchestra in FREE concert to the Camelback sanctuary. This is a good concert to share with neighbors and friends. The group is one of the premier classical ensembles in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, presenting unique music by well-known classical composers.

The Thunderbird Christian Elementary Spring Concert will take place Thursday evening, May 18, 6:30pm at the Scottsdale-Thunderbird SDA Church. Come and enjoy “Who Am I? CHOSEN,” an evening of music and drama. Groups will include children choirs, instrumental ensemble, hand chimes and bell choirs.

Sabbath, May 20, our monthly community service project to Scottsdale Nursing & Rehab happens. You can plan to meet in the parking lot at 2:45 and go in as a group at 3:00. The address is 3293 N Drinkwater Blvd. Participants are blessed, and bring a blessing to the residents there.

At 6:30pm on May 20, the Camelback Concert Series brings the Sonoran Desert Chorale to our sanctuary. This highly regarded and artistically sophisticated choral organization performs music spanning time from the ancient folk music of Mongolia to the premier of modern compositions such as Prelude to Glory by Russell Wilson. The Chorale performs a repertoire meant to demonstrate that music is a language that transcends our differences and accentuates our commonality.

We all love our Backpacks for Christ Christmas outreach. If you knit, or would like to learn, and want to play in integral role in Backpacks, now is your chance. Beginning Sunday, May 21, 10am-noon, plan to be in Room 9 of the Sabbath School wing. Cathie Worth and Gwen Dossey want you to bring # 7 knitting needles and show up!

It’s hard to believe that another school year is winding down. Graduations are upon us. If your name, or that of a loved one or friend, needs to be on our list of graduates, please contact the church office. This is an important milestone, and your church family wants to recognize your accomplishment. You may phone (480.947.3781), FAX (480.947.8643) email (cherieo@camelbackchurch.org) or text (480.235.5153) your info.

That’s all for today, my friends. I look forward to seeing you on Sabbath.

God’s richest blessings to you and yours.
