A Message from Cherie

Let’s begin with a devotional thought, to open our minds and our hearts to the indwelling of the Spirit:

About two-thirds of Americans say eating Thanksgiving leftovers is more important than eating the actual holiday meal. That’s one of the few times people hope food is left on the table. When it comes to giving out blessings, God doesn’t want any leftovers to remain. In Genesis 12:2, God blesses Abraham so he will be a blessing to others. Charles Stanley writes: “A hoarded blessing is never enjoyed as richly as a shared one. Using your gift to meet someone else’s need glorifies God by demonstrating his grace at work in your life. Don’t let his generous provisions end with you. Pass them on and discover the joy of a never-ending cycle of blessings.”

It’s such a blessing to each of us to be entering this season of the year when our hearts are more open to giving and helping. What a privilege it is to call ourselves children of the King, and to share our resources, big or small, physical or emotional, with those around us who are in need. Thank you, God; thank you, Jesus; thank you, Holy Spirit.

A reminder to those who would benefit, the Camelback Church now hosts two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.

This past Tuesday evening, the DivorceCare group met for the 1st time. DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone. A 13-week program meeting once a week for 1-1/2 hours, beginning at 7:00pm in Room 2B. The program includes a DVD and workbook. Please visit divorcecare.org for more info. Kids are welcome. Please don’t let ANYTHING stand in the way of getting the help that’s available.

The Men of God Accountability Group is meeting 7:00 - 8:30pm, in Room 7. The book they are using is The Resolution for Men, written by Stephen Kendrick, Alex Kendrick and Randy Alcorn. We are asking that you purchase your own book, and read 1 chapter per week. In the back of the book you will find study questions. The Resolution for Men strategically inspires men to reconcile with their past, re-engage in the present by taking full responsibility for their wives and children, and then move forward with a bold and clear resolution for the future. The group will be taking off Thanksgiving week and finishing the week before Christmas. Though they are beginning to close in on the end of the group, any of you men out there who would still be interested are certainly welcome to join.

The Sanctuary Choir will rehearse this coming Friday (11-4) night at 7:00 in the Choir Room, and then again on November 18, to sing for church on November 19.

This coming Sabbath (11-5) will be a busy one. Pastor Mark is having great success with the Family Circle Sabbath School in the Rotunda. They begin at 9:15 with refreshments, and the program runs from 9:30 - 10:00, featuring music, testimonies, scripture reading, prayer and more. The regular Sabbath School classes follow the Rotunda service from 10:00 - 10:30.

I asked Pastor Lou to prepare an explanation of what is going to take place for the volunteers who have signed up for our Love Your Community Sabbath Health Fair, taking place on November 12: We will meet in the sanctuary this Sabbath (11-5) during Sabbath school (9:30 -10:30am) for orientation. Beginning at 9:30, we will meet as a large group to cover the NEWSTART principles and some general directions. Volunteers will then meet with their group leader for specific instructions pertaining to their area of service. We will conclude the SS time period with Q & A and prayer. Those not involved with the Health Fair are invited to join their respective SS classes for discussion of the SS lesson. Skip's class is still meeting in the overflow section, Merv's class is going to meet in Room 2A, and Brian’s class will meet in the Library.

Pastor Lou will bring us a message entitled, “Heart of Worship,” based on Luke 18:9-14, in case you want to get a little background and head-start!

Groups, including about 15 TAA students, will be going out to distribute flyers for the Health Fair after a quick bite-to-eat following the worship service. I’m sure Cathie Worth would welcome more folks to join in this effort. I went out last Sabbath afternoon, and it was a real blessing to have his experience. There will be a Guest Luncheon this Sabbath; all are welcome, just bring food!

For those who have committed to Children’s Sabbath School ministries, this Sabbath Melanie Cruz will lead out in a Leadership Workshop. Come and learn how we can understand and reach this new generation of kids. It will begin at 2:00 and run until 5:00, in the Rotunda. Please contact the church office 480.947.3781 if you have not yet signed up and wish to attend.

Saturday night (still 11-5) Faith Hope and Love Worship and Game Night, complete with bonfire rally - 7:00pm - Thunderbird Adventist Academy.

Though they are departing tomorrow for Thailand for the destination wedding of friends, Pastor Jackie and Lauryl will celebrate their 1st wedding anniversary, this coming Monday, November 7. We could all send them cards that will welcome them back home the following weekend! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, JACKIE & LAURYL - HERE YOU ARE LIVING THE DREAM!!!!

Friday and Saturday, November 11 & 12 - 36th Annual Arizona Conference Regional Ministries Convocation. Friday night - 7:00pm - Tucson Sharon SDA Church Saturday morning - 9:00am - Leon Rich Theater at the Tucson Convention Center.

For next Sabbath, November 12, we are all really excited about our Love Your Community Health Fair. If you have not signed up yet and would like to be involved, it is of the utmost importance that you attend in the sanctuary during Sabbath School time this week (11-5). You can check with Cathie Worth or myself that morning and we can direct you, based on your choice of ministry participation. For those who do not choose to participate in Health Fair activities, Pastor Mark will have a sermon. Later that night, the Camelback Concert Series is pleased to bring Wintley Phipps in FREE Concert, to the sanctuary, beginning at 6:30. This Baritone Gospel Artist is blessed with the special gift of a voice the Lord has commissioned him to use to spread the gospel through music.

On Tuesday, November 15, as a followup to the Nutrition portion of our Health Fair, 3ABN Guest Speaker and Chef, Mark Anthony, will be with us, beginning at 6:00 in the Rotunda, for one night only. Don’t miss this exciting event. Chef Mark Anthony has been on ABC, NBC, 3ABN, and appears regularly on SmartLifestyle Worldwide television. He has done these events in every state in the country. FREE Dinner and a Message - Cooking at its Funnest!! Plant-based Health Nutrition - These Great topics: Weight Loss, Lower Cholesterol, Increase Energy.

As we talked about giving in our devotional tonight, just a reminder, our annual Procession of Thanks will take place two weeks from this Sabbath. The cart is in the foyer, we have a whole sleeve of handled grocery bags, donated generously by Trader Joe’s; now all we’re lacking is your GENEROUS donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items. We are planning to provide for 15 community families this year, and some of these families have as many as 10-14 children in them. As the Spirit impresses you, open your hearts and your wallets that we may all be blessed. If you are unable to get out to shop, and would like to make a monetary donation, that is also a welcome gift.

As we begin to prepare for Sabbath tomorrow, and you think about your giving, keep in mind that the offering this week is for Camelback Church Ministries. We are coming up on year-end now, and we all need to think about how we are going to contribute to the deficit. More on that later.

Don’t forget, there are MANY needs in our church family and the community. As you pray, lift up these needs to the throne of God; He hears every prayer.

As you welcome in the Sabbath tomorrow evening, may it be with thankfulness to God for His love and mercy and grace. And may your gratitude just overflow onto everyone with whom you come in contact.

I look forward to seeing you on Sabbath!

Love, Cherie O
