Good afternoon Camelback members & friends!
Here we are, closing out another work week, AND another month, hard to believe, isn’t it? If any of you are, or have already taken off for the Labor Day weekend, whatever you’re doing and wherever you’re going, please do it safely. We want you back with us next week!
We had a special request from the Chandler SDA Church. They need a pianist for their Friday Night Vespers tonight, 7:00 - 8:30p. If you’re one of those spur of the moment people and can help, they would appreciate it!
Or if you’d enjoy an evangelistic series presented by youth, please see the following. It begins tonight:
Tomorrow: Family Praise & Worship gathers from 9:30 - 9:45, in Room 8 of the Sabbath School wing, followed by Sabbath Schools for all age groups, from newborn to us older folks, taking place in several locations around the facility. They are all listed on the inside cover of your bulletin when you arrive Sabbath morning. For the worship service, Praise First will lead us in the Song Service, we’ll have a baptism (always makes it a SPECIAL SABBATH!), Pastor John will bring us the morning message, entitled, “REAL FOOD.” His scripture reference is John 4:31-35, for those who would like to get a head start. The service will be followed by guest luncheon in the Rotunda, and as always EVERYONE is welcome, you just need to BRING FOOD. It's always helpful to our great volunteers, if a few who are attending could stay afterward and assist with clean-up.
SUNDAY IS PASTOR JOHN’S BIRTHDAY - WE HOPE YOU HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY Pastor John, and may all the days that follow find you keeping well and happy!
Monday is Labor Day. The church office will be closed (Yea for the staff!)
Identifying and Resolving Personal & Marital Problems (The Divorce Care, Grief Share, Caring for the Emotionally Damaged Heart and Communication Seminar) has resumed for another season, facilitated by Duane Andersen. The group meets on Tuesday nights, at 7:00pm in Classroom 5 of the Sabbath School wing. Please text or call Duane if you are interested in more information. His # is 480.276.1689.
We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.
The Men’s Small Group Study is meeting again. They get together on Wednesday at 7:00pm in Room 7, up toward the north end of the Sabbath School wing.
Speaking of Room #’s, A BIG THANK YOU to Larry Chadwick for putting temporary #’s over the doors of the Education Wing. One of these days, we’ll get our new signage for the property, but until such time, those temporary #’s will do the job.
And speaking of signs, I’m going to put one in the main Women’s restroom, alerting women to the fact that there are changing tables in two locations - one in the changing room of the Prayer/Parents’ Room and one in the west restroom in the south hallway. I would imagine many of you didn’t know this previously, so now you do!
For you young women out there: You are invited! Come join us for a re-launch of the Camelback young women’s Bible study on Wednesday, September 5 at Lux Central Coffee, located at 4402 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012, 7:00pm. This inclusive and vibrant community of young women will be crafting plans for the upcoming year. For more info, text Sarah Ruf at 423-310-2366.
Beginning next Thursday, September 6 - Sunday, September 9, the Pacific Union is holding a Children/Family Ministries Convention in San Jose, California. If you have any interest in attending, please contact Pastor Melanie SOON.
The Camelback church has scheduled a business meeting with a light meal and game night to follow on September 8 at 6:00 PM. All members are encouraged to attend this important meeting. The agenda items include a discussion on the new vision for the church and how the renewed emphasis on discipleship will affect our various ministries here. We will also share the upcoming changes to our weekly worship service and a few new positions being recommended by the nominating committee. We invite you to bring snacks and finger foods to share after the meeting along with your favorite board games to play as we fellowship together. We can look forward to both an informative and enjoyable evening.
Sunday, September 9, our Adventurers/Jr. Adventurers are in for a treat, Water Fun Day, 9:00am - Noon, at the Thunderbird Adventist Academy campus.
Next Friday evening, September 14, Camelback Church Youth present Welcome Home, in the Rotunda, doors open at 7:00.
Sabbath, September 15, we will celebrate Communion. If some of you recall hearing it was going to be on the 30th, you’re right! But we did make the switch to September 15. We hope that many will be in attendance.
Stephen Ministry is an important part of our overall Care & Nurture Ministry at Camelback. We are beginning training for a new group of Stephen Ministers on Sabbath, October 13. There will be a sign-up/information table in the foyer tomorrow.
The Camelback Church Board has formed a Security Committee to focus on the safety and medical emergency needs of the church and its members. We are currently seeking volunteers whom we can equip and train to serve on an official team. The team will primarily focus on security during Sabbath School, worship services and church events. The primary duties will be to monitor the campus for any security threats or medical emergencies that might occur and to respond to them immediately by requesting assistance from the proper emergency services, e.g., Fire, EMS, Police. Training will be provided to those who volunteer. If you’re interested in participating in one of the teams, please inform Pastor Mark, Cherie or Jeff York.
I know there’s someone out there whom the Holy Spirit is tugging at your heart strings to respond to this need: The Adventurer Club needs a teacher to work with the Eager Beaver Kindergarten class. We also need a pianist for the Discovery/Jr. Adventurers group. Clubs meet the first and third Sabbaths of the month from 2-4 p.m. Meetings start mid-September and run to mid-May. Contact JoAnn Bloom at email@example.com
With the start of a new school year, we will be welcoming new families not only to the schools, but also to Camelback. We look forward to meeting each one of you, getting to know you, and integrating you into your new church family!
Our Food Pantry can still use your contributions. High-in-demand this time of year are the quick and easy, ready-to-eat items. And, of course, we can always use water. Thank you for your continuing support!
That’s all for now, my friends. See you tomorrow!
Love, Cherie O
