Notes from Cherie O.

Sorry for the delay, technical difficulties! This was intended to be sent out last night.

Good evening, fellow Camelback members and friends!

Here we are, another week AND another month drawing to a close. One of the best things about that is, we’re closer to our new Senior Pastor, John Stanton, and his wife, Rochelle, arriving. We learned this week that their first Sabbath with us will be July 7. So, mark your calendar and plan to be here. I know Pastor Stanton will have an outstanding message for us!

Thunderbird Christian Elementary graduations today - Kindergarten at 3:00 and 8th-Grade at 6:30. And, Thunderbird Academy’s graduation is this coming weekend. Another school year, also, drawing to a close!

We learned this week of the passing of Camelback member, Margaret Wright. Margaret hadn’t attended in a number of years, but was always under the watchful care of Hands and Feet for Jesus. And I just learned today that Terry Wilkens’ dad passed away. We are all longing for that great Resurrection morning; what a glorious day, indeed, it will be!

This Sabbath (5-26), Family Praise & Worship - Songs, testimonies, scripture, prayer, and more, for the kids and whole family - ROOM 8 - 9:30-9:45am. And, Sabbath Schools for all other age groups, from newborn to us older folks, taking place in several locations around the facility. They are all listed on the inside cover of your bulletin when you arrive Sabbath morning. Brent & Brenda Seidel’s class, which meets in Room 2A, is on a hiatus until June 23. For our Spanish-speaking friends, a new Sabbath School class is meeting. It begins at 9:30am and is being held in the senior pastor’s office in the main building. Pastor Steve Gibson (son of our own, Paul Gibson) will bring us the morning message entitled, “STANDING AT THE END,” with a scripture reference of Romans 14:4. THE CHURCH-WIDE POTLUCK, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR THIS SABBATH, HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED TO NEXT SABBATH, JUNE 2. We apologize for any inconvenience this creates for anyone. And to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the long Memorial Day weekend, there will not be a visitor’s lunch this Sabbath, either. The Elementary School Ministry will be doing Nursing Home Visitation at 2:30 this Sabbath. Your contact person for this is Paullette Sanchez.

Sunday (5-27), Elementary School Ministry strikes again! It’s a lunch event at Organ Stop Pizza, 11:30am.

Monday (5-28) is Memorial Day. The church office will be closed. However you spend the day, PLEASE take at least a few moments to think about, and be grateful to, the fallen heroes (and their families), who paid the ultimate cost to assure YOUR freedom.

Tuesday (5-29) A REALLY BIG DAY for 2 SPECIAL PEOPLE, Pastors Melanie & Manny Cruz. We hope it is a truly blessed day for you!

You can tell summer is right around the corner. A lot of activities start to wind down.

We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.

The Men’s Small Group Study is now on break until Wednesday, July 18.

I’m not sure about the Young Women’s Bible Study. As soon as I hear from the leader, I’ll let you know their schedule.

Next Sabbath, June 2, will be a busy day, beginning with Stephen Ministries Peer Supervision at 8:30am in Room 1. If anyone reading this is interested in any facet of Stephen Ministries, there is a secure receptacle at the Information Window in the the lobby. Just drop your comment/question in the box, and someone will respond promptly. There will be no Family Praise & Worship on June 2. The usual Sabbath School classes will meet, except as noted. Pastor John Schachinger, AZ Conference Trust Services & Gift Planning/Community Services Director, will bring us the morning message. There will be a church-wide potluck. Please bring plenty of your favorite dish(es) to share. What better way to renew old friendships and/or make new ones, than over a meal! Following the potluck, at 2:00pm in the sanctuary, we’ll gather for Travis Fuller’s Memorial Service. I hope that many of you will be able to attend so his family can see how much Travis was loved by his church family. He was such a dear man with a caring and loving heart. The service will be followed by a Reception in the Rotunda. Two of the children’s clubs will meet at 2:00 in the afternoon, Adventurer’s in Room 3 and Discovery Club in Room 6. And last, but not least, for those who like to participate in the Camp Meeting Anthem Choir & Orchestra, their first rehearsal is 4:00-6:00 at the Glendale SDA Church.

GRADUATES: It’s that time of year again; we’re right in the midst of graduations. If your name, or that of a loved one or friend, needs to be on our list of graduates, please contact the church office. This is an important milestone, and your church family wants to recognizeyour accomplishment. You may phone (480.947.3781), FAX (480.947.8643) email (cherieo@camelbackchurch.org) or text (480.235.5153) your info. It’s that time of year, quickly approaching, when I will be going on vacation. The church office will be closed Thursday, June 7 - Friday, June 22, as I take my annual sabbatical to Indiana, where I can rest and get rejuvenated for another year.
