Notes from Cherie O.

July 27, 2018

Good morning, Camelback members and friends!

It’s really been a hot one this WHOLE week, and just a few degrees cooler today, with an anticipated 109. We shall survive!

Tomorrow, Stephen Ministries leaders and ministers will meet at 8:30am for Peer Supervision and Continuing Education in Room 1. If anyone reading this is interested in any facet of Stephen Ministries, there is a secure receptacle at the Information Window in the the lobby. Just drop your comment/question in the box, and someone will respond promptly. Family Praise & Worship gathers from 9:30 - 9:45, in Room 8 of the Sabbath School wing, followed by Sabbath Schools for all age groups, from newborn to us older folks, taking place in several locations around the facility. They are all listed on the inside cover of your bulletin when you arrive Sabbath morning. For the worship service, Sisters of Grace will lead us in Praise, we’ll get to witness Adventurer Club and Discovery Club Investiture, and Family Life Pastor Melanie Cruz will bring us the morning message, entitled, “LOVE IN MOTION.” The service will be followed by a church-wide potluck in the Rotunda. What better way to catch up with friends, and better yet, make new ones, than over a meal? Please bring plenty of your favorite dish(es) to share so we’re sure to have plenty for our guests!

Sunday, July 29, Thunderbird Christian Elementary will be gearing up for the new school year, with a Cleaning, Sweeping, Painting and Pulling Weeds Work Bee. Thank you in advance for bringing painting and cleaning tools to help with the work! It takes place from 7:00am - 1:00pm. Amazingly enough, it ends just in time for you to take in the final FUN IN JULY event at the Ice Den Scottsdale (ice skating, imagine that; a good way to cool off after the work bee!). The address is 9375 E Bell Road, Scottsdale. 1:30 - 3:30pm. Price $12.00 per person.

The Divorce Care, Grief Share, Caring for the Emotionally Damaged Heart and Communication Seminar are all available again. The group has resumed meeting on Tuesday nights, at 7:00pm in Classroom 5 of the Sabbath School wing. Please text the facilitator, Pastor Duane Andersen, if you are interested in more information. His # is 480.276.1689.

We continue to host two Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week in the Rotunda; Wednesday & Friday afternoons, Noon - 1:00pm.

The Men’s Small Group Study is meeting again. They get together on Wednesday at 7:00pm in Room 10.

Friday, August 3, it’s time once again for Camelback Church Youth to present WELCOME HOME, High School-Collegiate Youth Worship. Doors open at 7:00pm and begins at 7:30pm. It will include an open mic, fun, friends, food and faith!

Sabbath evening, August 4, Heritage in FREE Concert - 6:30 in the Sanctuary. This is the kind of concert to bring your family, neighbors and friends. Everyone loves Heritage!

Sunday morning, August 5, the Camelback SDA Women’s Breakfast Club will gather at the home of Diane Bond, 9:30. I’m sure they are always on the lookout for new members! Later in the day, at 4:00pm, please come out to the Rotunda for a Baby Shower for Ken & Ashley Brignoni:

Have you heard about the Thunderbird Adventist Academy Matching Funds Challenge? All donations or pledges made by July 31, 2018, will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $14,400. As of July 25, donations total $10,485. This is your way to get involved. More information: Tanna Allison, director of Alumni Relations & Development - 480.269.1626 (w) - Email

And don’t forget our annual Christmas in July benefit. This year, as Megan Loney explained from the pulpit a few weeks ago, we’re doing things a little differently. We are collecting socks and underwear, all ages and all sizes, for the St. Vincent de Paul homeless and children’s programs. There are collection bins in the foyer, and we will be collecting through Sabbath, August 4. That’s just one week from tomorrow, and those two bins have only a small amount in each one. Come on, friends, let’s come through again, like Camelback always does!

Speaking of coming through, the Food Pantry is REALLY busy these days and could use your extra donations.

That’s all for now, hope to see A LOT of you tomorrow!

Love, Cherie O
